Living A Balanced Life

1. Take care of and nurture yourself.
To be productive, one must take care of oneself. Living A Balanced Life can be easier than you might think. To improve your health, get plenty of rest, exercise regularly, and eat a proper diet. Many of us think we can maintain a normal lifestyle while burning the candle at both ends, eating junk food, getting very little exercise and still function adequately.

While you may be able to get away with a hectic lifestyle when you’re young, at some point in your life, the physical and emotional strain will likely catch up with you. Burnout is a very real possibility.

It’s important to schedule time during your day for pleasant activities that you enjoy, such as walking, working out, or listening to music. Or, if you have a hectic schedule during the week, allow yourself to unwind by reading, meditating, or taking a nice hot bath.

2. Know what your priorities are.
Balance doesn’t mean doing everything. Think about what’s important to you and set realistic boundaries. Building a career, starting a family, and going to school require different levels of focus and energy at different points in your life.

It is important to prioritize your tasks and not become overwhelmed by juggling too many big projects at once. For example, maybe planning a wedding is not a good idea when you are also studying for the bar exam. Nor would starting a family when you’re unsure about your career direction or relationship status be wise.

When people do not know what they want and try to do everything at once, it can be a recipe for disaster instead of a road to a well-balanced life. As the saying goes: “Do not bite off more than you can chew.”

3. Create an efficient mindset.
Be organized and plan ahead. Take time at the beginning of each week to assess what tasks need to be accomplished. Write down these tasks in a planner or calendar for upcoming appointments, impending exams, or meetings to attend.

Make sure to schedule time for recreation and quality time with your family. Taking time to relax, connect with family and friends, and maintain a balanced lifestyle can lead to greater productivity in the long run.

4. Expect the unexpected.
Rather than get stressed or upset when something over which you have no control happens, learn to accept such occurrences and move on. You might get stuck in traffic, your computer could crash, or your child could become ill with chickenpox. Such things are beyond anyone’s control.

We all experience unexpected events. By accepting the reality that anything can happen at any time and being able to adjust your game plan accordingly, you’ll be better prepared to deal with the unexpected.

You may also find that achieving balance is not always possible. For instance, you may have to deal with a family or career crisis that requires your immediate and undivided attention.

It may require a great deal of time, energy, and resources on your part. When that happens, be willing to make sacrifices and when things go back to normal take some time for yourself to recover.

5. Maintain a positive mental attitude.
Begin each day with the intention of accomplishing as much as you can, and make the most of your time.

To live a well-balanced and less stressful life, it is important to learn how to deal with adversity, unforeseen events, and uncertainty. If you practice not letting things get to you, you will not only learn to live a well-balanced and less stressful life, but you will also be able to savour each moment. Once you have done everything possible to control your life and minimize the chances of negative occurrences, allow yourself to relax and be open to the possibilities in the future.

While no one can anticipate every eventuality in life, individuals can decide how, where, and when to focus their efforts.

Doing this may require you to engage in some critical thinking and problem solving, but the result will be a less stressful life.
